Marcelo to pay up 500k euros for tax fraud

Following a brief appearance in court, Real Madrid defender Marcelo has agreed to pay 490,917.70 euros in taxes owed to the Spanish treasury.

Public prosecutors brought the case forward once it was alleged that the Brazilian had created a corporate structure to conceal image rights income in the tax years 2011, 2012 and 2013.

EFE report that Marcelo stood in Court No. 4 in Alcobendas, just north of Madrid, for only 10 minutes as the matter was reviewed and culpability accepted.

The left-back must now register the charges with the court while in the meantime the state attorney, prosecutor and defence will prepare a letter of conformity that is to be presented to a judge in a trial that will ratify the case on an upcoming date.
